Question: Ontario Building Code Section 7.2.1.4, Identification and Certification of the 1997 Ontario Building Code (OBC) states in part (Appendix B): (4) The lack of certification markings on a product or plumbing component shall be regarded as proof, in the absence of evidence to the contrary that no certification exists.
The product was labelled with the certification UPC on the crimping connectors at each end of the fitting. However, the white plastic component did not have any visible markings on it. Does this mean that the product was not properly certified because the one component was absent of proof of certification?
Although the product may be tested and sold as a whole; there is further speculation considering there is an option to order the individual plastic component on the manufacturers website for home repairs. Would this change things?
Interpretation: No! There are no certification programs for the component nuts. These can only be certified as a complete unit and the crimping can only be done during the manufacturing process.
