O.B.C. 7.4.7.1. (10) The following questions have been hashed over a number of times over the past few years, but there seems to be no definite interpretation of the requirements. Would the CTC please consider the following questions.
Where a ‘P’ trap serves a kitchen sink that includes a removable trap dip, would this qualify as a cleanout, as required by Sentence 7.4.7.1. (10)?
Where a ‘P’ trap serving an island kitchen sink is installed below the floor and is ‘not accessible’ for cleaning purposes, would a cleanout provided on the ‘fixture outlet pipe’ be acceptable to comply with Sentence 7.2.3.1. (3a), provided that a cleanout is installed on the fixture drain immediately downstream of the trap outlet as per Sentence 7.4.7.1. (10)?
Interpretation: YES, if the P-trap is provided with a removable dip it would comply with 7.4.7.1.(10) (access to the fixture drain) as per 7.2.3.1.(3)(b) (part of the trap can be removed for cleaning).
Where a p-trap serves an island kitchen sink, an accessible cleanout is required as per 7.4.7.4.(1) on the fixture drain/trap arm immediately downstream of the inaccessible P-trap with the leg of the cleanout brought up into the cabinet under the sink.
While an additional cleanout would be recommended on the fixture outlet pipe, it is not required.
