Question submitted: (Within a building where) there will be 6 permanent residents with development disabilities. Some of the residents will require assistance in the event of an emergency evacuation, as such the residence is classified (as) B3 occupancy instead of part 9 home. I asked for a G.I. (Grease Interceptor). In the Building Code sentence 7.4.4.3.(1), it would require a G.I.
Since this Group Home is deemed to be a Group B Division 3 occupancy and not a residential occupancy, the installation of a grease interceptor is required.
1.4.1.1. – Care occupancy (Group B, Division 3) means an occupancy in which persons receive special or supervisory care because of cognitive or physical limitations, but does not include a dwelling unit.
Residential occupancy means the occupancy or use of a building or part of a building by persons for whom sleeping accommodation is provided but who are not harboured or detained there to receive medical care or treatment or who are not involuntarily detained there.
