Question: 06-39 | Code Section: 7 | Date: | OBC 2006 Reference: 7.2.2.2.(7) |
Question: Have you seen or heard about “safety bath”? Are these fixtures approved? Should there be a backwater valve be installed on the external drain? Is the air gap sufficient on the faucet installation? Check out the Internet for pictures or diagrams at www.safetybath.com.
Interpretation: The fixture known as a “Safety Bath” is approved by two certified testing agencies in Canada as a hydro massage bathtub. The fixture drain is designed in the same manner as a standard bathtub with a pop up drain and overflow and the faucet would have to meet backflow prevention standards.
