Question:

1. Is it permitted to gang trap fume hoods with laboratory sinks?
2. Can the vents from lab sinks in various rooms be interconnected?

Interpretation: (On. Reg. 403/97) 1. According to 7.4.5.1.(3), one trap may serve a group of lab sinks if they are all in the same room and are not located where they can receive food or other organic matter.
2. According to 7.5.4.4, vents connecting to the corrosive drain piping or dilution tank shall extend independently to and terminate in open air.
